Spring water that is good for the skin
Zao Onsen is known as a strongly acidic sulfur spring with an abundance of hot spring water.
Sulfur springs are regarded as having an antibacterial effect and making the skin firmer and clearer. -
With 1900 years of history, it’s one of the best long-established onsen in Japan.
This famous onsen is said to have been in existence for 1900 years and is the oldest in Yamagata Prefecture. Steam drifts in and out around the onsen area, which has many Japanese-style inns and hotels. In addition, three communal baths, three foot baths, and five onsen facilities for day trips mean the hot springs of the Zao Onsen area can be enjoyed by everyone, not just guests of overnight facilities.
