Reset your heart and body in the mystical mountains of the gods!
The Dewa Sanzan (three mountains of Dewa) encompasses three sacred mountains: Mt. Gassan, Mt. Haguro, and Mt. Yudono. A pilgrimage to these mountains, revered since ancient times, is said to be a journey of rebirth, through death and back again, that resets the body and heart and fills one with new vitality.
If you’re unsure whether you can visit all three mountains, don’t worry: you can take a bus to the summit of Mt. Haguro, where pilgrims can worship all three gods at once at the Sanjin Gosaiden shrine. -
Discover Dewa Sanzan’s history and spiritual culture
After visiting the Sanjin Gosaiden, you can explore the Dewa Sanzan Museum of History, located within the shrine grounds, where you can enjoy learning about the world of the Dewa Sanzan while seeing a variety of historic artifacts. The museum houses several important cultural properties, including bronze mirrors and lantern poles from the nearby Kagami-ike (“mirror-pond”), famous Gassan swords from the Namboku-cho (AD 1336–1392) period, as well as many other items fitting for a sacred mountain ascetic site. Why not explore the world of mountain worship and experience the spiritual culture? A special time awaits.
