Beautiful mountains appearing in the list of “100 Famous Japanese Mountains”
As the name written in Japanese kanji denotes, Yamagata is a prefecture of mountains. Of these, six tower high above the rest and are counted among the “100 Famous Japanese Mountains.” They are Mt. Zao, Mt. Chokai, Mt. Gassan, Mt. Azuma, Mt. Asahi, and Mt. Iide. In addition to these six beautiful mountains, there are many other mountains near communities and easily hikeable low mountains that appear in “Yamagata 100 Famous Mountains,” a list compiled by an extensive survey of people enamored with the mountains in Yamagata.
Those mountains present a magnificent landscape and a setting closely connected with people’s lives. -
