Fantastical landscapes produced by snowmelt
Yamagata Prefecture is encircled by beautiful mountains and has an abundance of lovely landscapes created by pristine water and bountiful nature!
The submerged forest of Lake Shirakawa can only be seen for a period in spring when the water level rises due to snowmelt. You can encounter the incredible sight of trees emerging from the surface of the lake. In addition, Mifuchi Valley was formed by steep cliffs along Nagai Hyakushu Lake and is said to be where the water god was born. This mystical place is also a popular spiritual hot spot. -
Delicious foods and sake produced by pure, delicious water
The prefecture is blessed by gorgeous nature such as numerous impressive mountains, clean air, and the ‘mother river’ representative of Yamagata, the Mogami River. The abundance of unadulterated spring waters located here and there throughout the prefecture enrich the land, people, and vegetation of Yamagata.
The water produced from this rich nature creates rice brands such as Tsuyahime and Yukiwakamaru, farm produce including seasonal fruits, and local sake unique to the land that delight both the eyes and the soul.
