A museum and cultural facility showcasing traditional performing arts and the Uesugi clan’s history
Denkoku no Mori combines two facilities, one of which is the Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum. The museum houses thousands of precious items that belonged to the Uesugi clan, some of which are national treasures. Among these, the Uesugi-bon Rakuchu Rakugai-zu six-fold screens, acclaimed as a masterpiece of Japanese art, are a national treasure not to be missed. Nearby stands the Uesugi Shrine, dedicated to the feudal lord Uesugi Kenshin, which is another must-see site for visitors who want to steep themselves in history.

Don’t miss the floating Noh stage!
The other facility is Okitama Culture Hall, where you can enjoy performing arts such as Noh, theater, and music. The Noh stage in the entrance hall of the building can be floated on compressed air like a hovercraft and slid into the main hall, quickly turning it into a 550-seat Noh hall. The unique method of moving the Noh stage is a first for Japan.
